Background
Orbit Communications Pty Ltd designs and manufactures a range of remote control and monitoring equipment for Agricultural and Industrial applications. Along with an established presence in the industrial arena, the Orbit brand has also gained significant momentum in the agricultural market.
The challenge
Managing Director David Huisman said "Within our business it is important that we can easily track customer technical enquiries, developmental changes and manufactured items in various stages of completion. Until recently we used a combination of an accounting package, a customer database and written records. As our activities intensified it became almost impossible, with the system we had, to track what was happening within our business and forecasting future requirements for materials"
It was then that management decided to look around at various MRP packages from the top of the line packages down to entry level systems. Included in these were SAP, Arrow, Sybiz and Attache. After a rather intensive search Orbit settled on ACCENTIS Enterprise. "The package appeared to have functionality that was specifically designed for this type of business environment".
"Right from the first enquiry, through purchasing, commissioning the new system and keeping it running we have received service far beyond our expectations from the ACCENTIS team".
As the Orbit team were new to MRP systems, consideration was given to the potential exposure of incurring high setup and deployment costs. Huisman commented "I am personally surprised how smoothly the ACCENTIS staff got our system installed and commissioned for us with minimum fuss and at a very reasonable cost". Huisman also noted that the system was up and running in under 30 days.
"I have found the software itself is an extremely versatile and complete package that handles almost anything I can imagine we may want to implement in the future as we expand. As usual, it's the little things that make the biggest differences. For example, the software features multiple warehouse functions that enable us to move stock between contract assembly companies and easily track each step in the process" David commented "Even down to the small details. We had a requirement for printing small labels for our stock bins (inventory). Within 15 minutes the support guys at ACCENTIS had made up a custom label template and had it installed into our system. This was fantastic"
The array of more than 400 reports that are freely available for use within Accentis also provides Orbit with the ability to monitor every aspect of the business.
